Experiment 2 - Research and Conceptual Development

"Monumental designs which are geometrically pure, memorable and drawn from traditional ideas,
yet evolving towards a spacious organic form."

BLACKTOWN - Aboriginal Heritage:

Aboriginal dot painting - Darug people, Blacktown's first inhabitants

Coolamon - Traditional gathering bowl
Aboriginal spears and weapons

Sports park logo - Inspired by the shape of a boomerang

Monumental Architecture:

Iconic structures have one thing in common, a memorable uniqueness of form.

A good test to determine the memorable nature of a building is if it can be drawn in 5 seconds

Below is a short video that inspiried the iconic nature of my marker:

Initial Concept Sketches:

The images above, as well as the newly formed Electroliquid Aggregation concept, inspired the main design of the marker. I decided that in order for the architecture to be drawn from "traditional ideas", the basic form should be derived from the Aboriginal heritage of Blacktown itself.

Through a study of "memorable" and "monumental designs" in architecture, I decided that the marker must also be a relatively simple form which is distinct, yet instantly recognisable, and can be distinguishable with a single line.
